Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for visiting this page and for taking the first step toward donating your valuable time to the PTO. Whether you have 30 minutes a week or 30 minutes a month, there is a volunteer opportunity for everyone. Your ideas, your time, and your talents are truly needed to make Roberts a success.

Assistant Treasurer

Manage income items for Treasurer.  Check online banking system, functional email, and school mailbox for income items. Deposit any checks. Post income transactions to accounting system, maintain documentation. 

Auction

Oversee event planning, solicit donations, mange sales, underwriting, decorations, advertising, invitations, catering and more!  Jobs vary from leading a group of volunteers, to picking up donated items, to setting up the day of the auction. 

Book Fair

Coordinate planning of annual book fair in library.  Manages inventory throughout one week event, organizes team of volunteers to help during event.  

Buildings/Grounds

Work with school staff on building & grounds enhancements and maintenance.

Carnival

Organize all functions of the event, including rides, games, food, karaoke, book sale, & bake sale. Coordinates ticket sales, high school and middle school volunteers who help during event. Usually in April. 

Community Nights/Spirit Week

Organize events and manages volunteers for our community nights usually held in December (Winter Holiday) and February (Lunar New Year).  

Community Partnerships

Manage community partners and corporate sponsors. Includes soliciting corporate donations, ensuring corporate donors receive appropriate benefits. 

Culture of Giving

This is our annual fundraising campaign. Jobs include advertising the campaign, creating giving levels and benefits, motivating classes with prizes, delivering all incentives. Planning and volunteers are needed during September.

Dads Club – PADRES (Promoting Active Dads at Roberts Elementary School)

Manage team of parents to make repairs/improvements on campus throughout the year. Organize annual fall Campout on the Roberts' grounds.  

 

Directory

 

Work with school administration to update & maintain the online Roberts directory.

Fifth Grade

Coordinate and raise funds for our fifth-grade year-end activities. 

Front Page Newsletter

The Front Page is the PTO's weekly e-newsletter. Jobs involve writing, editing, using layout, adding text, and pictures. All the work can be done via e-mail.

Fun Run

Manage all aspects of Fun Run including event management with outside vendor, daily prize distribution. Create & publish class incentives and leaderboards.  Attend Pep Rally & Fun Run, send communication to the classes & teachers as required, and above all, help motivate the parents to work with their kids to raise pledges!

Hospitality 

Help procure coffee and light snacks for PTO meetings.

Information Services

Maintain the Roberts PTO website. Provide tech assistance to the PTO.

International Festival

Largest community event with up to 40 countries represented!  Work with Roberts' families to put on a showcase of Roberts' international flavor. Jobs include managing country booth organization, volunteers and talent show. 

International Garden and Classroom Liaisons

Maintain the garden with the support of parents, students, and the community.  Coordinate large seasonal pruning and cleanouts. Classroom liaisons organize one planting and one harvesting day.

Library

Library volunteers re-shelve books, maintain the shelves (organizing!). This job can be a set schedule for you, usually for 30-minute increments.

 

Math Club

 

Manage 4th & 5th grade after school Math Club. Weekly meetings with kids and teacher sponsor to participate in Math Olympiad program.  

 

Publicity

 

Help manage PTO social media accounts & marquee to advertise school events, & disseminate important information. 

Rice Partnerships

Organize Roberts family evenings at Rice sporting events. 

Room Parents

Help to coordinate and communicate classroom activities. Work with the teacher and parents on winter and end-of-school parties. Maintains an email list of all parents in the class and distributes information throughout the year. Collects a classroom fund to be used for teacher gifts.

Running Club

Work with PE Coach to manage weekly running club. Communicate with parents and supports kids in club events and with fundraising efforts. Plan Mustang Rally in May. 

School Newspaper

Work with students to publish school newspaper. Includes helping kids with article ideas, writing, editing, layout and publication of semi annual newspaper. 

School Store

Oversee school store sales of Roberts merchandise online and during meet the teacher, curriculum nights, field trip days, and other events throughout the year.

School Supplies

Help with the pre-ordering of school supplies in May, delivers pre-purchased supplies in August.

Staff Appreciation

Manage monthly lunches/breakfasts for the entire staff. Jobs include ordering lunches and breakfasts, food delivery & set up, procuring drinks, and monitoring food during event. Also includes teacher appreciation week in May (meals, gift cards, other).

 

Volunteer Recruitment 

 

 

Welcome Committee

Organize food and drinks for meet the teacher, class coffees, kindergarten playdate. 

 

Work Room

Organize and serve as part of a committee to copy, laminate, and generally assist teachers in making handouts that they need for their students. Training is provided. Hours and dates are flexible, can be a set schedule.
