Come join us for the 2024-25 Running Club Season!

We are looking forward to another great year of Running Club! We want to inspire a love of running in all Running Club kids!

Running Club practices on the paved track around the soccer field from 6:45 to 7:10 am, Mondays and Fridays (excluding holidays and school closures). The School Street gate near the soccer field is the best place to drop your child off. Attendance is taken at every practice session, so please advise your child to check in with the volunteer parent as soon as he or she arrives. Tennis shoes, running appropriate clothing, and a full water bottle are highly recommended. Your child may also want to bring a small hand towel because the kids can get quite sweaty!

We normally train rain or shine. If it is raining, the kids will train under the covered blacktop. However, for potential severe weather related cancellations, please check the email you provide with registration.

All new and returning student athletes must re-register to participate for the current school year. We request a donation of $30 per child per year. Your donations allow us to buy t-shirts and incentive prizes for the kids, and hold our annual end of the season race, The Mustang Rally - a 400m race for every grade level, held at the Rice Track & Field Stadium in May. The Running Club will also participate in the Run of Pi, a 5K fun run hosted every February by Houston Engineers Week, and will provide information about other local fun runs throughout the year.

Hope to see you at Running Club!

Running Club FAQs

What does the Running Club entail?

Students interested in Running Club may attend morning practices twice a week, with practices usually starting in September or October and ending in May. Running Club usually has 2 main events each year: a 1K/5K fun run called "Run of Pi" in February and a school-wide 400 meter foot race at the Rice University track called "Mustang Rally." During the Mustang Rally, the kids will run by gender and grade level, with all participants receiving a medal and top 3 finishers in each category receiving a ribbon.

Roberts Running Club also has a relationship with Rice University. Some of the Rice University track and field students visit our Running Club practices, usually once in the fall and once in the spring.

What is the cost to join Running Club?

We request a $30 registration fee for each runner to help cover costs of shirts and events. The Run of Pi and the Mustang Rally each have separate registration fees.

Where should I drop off my runner for morning practices?

You can drop off your runner at the gate on School Street. Practices start at 6:45am. Please do not drop off your runner at the gates on Swift Blvd or Greenbriar Drive.

What should my runner bring to morning practices?

No items are required but we recommend that your runner bring a water bottle, a small towel to dry off with, and an extra shirt to change into.

Does my runner need to attend every morning practice?

Runners are not required to attend every practice. In addition, there will not be morning practices around school holidays.
