FROM THE PRINCIPAL: REPORT CARDS, PARENT LUNCH, AND CONFERENCES

Today Is Report Card Day!

Report cards for all students go home today in the Tuesday Folder. Parents receive two copies of the report card: one to sign and return to the teacher and a parent copy. Any student receiving special education, speech or dyslexia services also received a progress report. Please return the signed copy of the report card to school on Wednesday in the Tuesday Folder.

Fall Parent Conferences

Teachers have begun scheduling parent conferences. The goal is for teachers to meet with the parents of all students in the class by December 6. Please note that teachers will prioritize which parents to schedule first for conferences. Teachers will contact parents directly to schedule meetings.

 Parent Joining for Lunch

This week we are open for parents to join their child for lunch. We ask that parents refrain from coming daily or even weekly, but instead join for lunch as a special treat or for a special occasion. Due to space limitations, we ask that no more than two parents visit at one time. Parents must eat at the designated table and food may not be shared with other students. Please note in 3rd–5th grades we have little to no extra seating. Parents of students in those grades may pull a folding chair next to their child when joining for lunch.

Student Holidays: No School

I am sure that we do not need any reminders for this one, but students are on holiday Thursday, Oct. 3 and Friday, Oct. 4. All students should return to school on Monday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 a.m. Enjoy your long weekend and for those who celebrate,  wishing you and your family a wonderful Rosh Hashanah!

STAFF MEMBER OF THE WEEK: Kristina Tran, Instructional Coordinator

Greetings! My name is Kristina Tran, and I am the Instructional Coordinator at Roberts Elementary. This is my sixth year at Roberts, and I am excited to be part of the Roberts Community! My baby, Alexandra, is a 1st grader at Roberts and my older two kiddos, Madalyn and Jayden, former Roberts students, are now at Lanier MS and Debakey HS. In my spare time, I teach Zumba and watch Chinese/Korean dramas. I’m always down for a dance session or a good drama discussion! I am excited to see what this school year holds for our students!

NEW TEACHER OF THE WEEK: Madison A. Taylor, 1st Grade

I grew up in Houston, TX. I am a product of HISD—I went to Horn ES, Pershing MS, and graduated from Bellaire HS! I graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX where I joined a sorority (Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc.) and graduated with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies. I am the youngest of 8 girls and love spending time with all my older siblings and my dog Gumbo when I'm not in the classroom. I also enjoy traveling around the world and I am currently planning a trip to London and Paris. This will be my fourth year teaching, and I am ready to make it the best one yet here at Roberts Elementary!

JOIN ROBERTS RUNNING CLUB—PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Running Club practices will continue every Monday and Friday at 6:45 a.m. except for on school holidays (no practice this Friday!). We require all runners to register and request a $30 donation for each child to help cover t-shirt and events. We recommend a water bottle and a towel for practice! We’re also seeking VIPS cleared parents to volunteer with morning practices. Please send an email to runningclub@robertspto.org if you're interested in volunteering.

UPCOMING SOCIAL EVENTS

PADRES CAMPOUT NOV. 15: REGISTRATION OPEN!

Join the PADRES and Roberts PTO Friday, Nov. 15, to camp out under the stars on the lawn and field at Roberts Elementary! The cost is $25 per camper (adults and children), which includes activities, Friday dinner, snacks, and Saturday breakfast, and a camp t-shirt for kids. Adult volunteers will also receive a campout shirt. Register and then sign up to volunteer, or see the Campout page for more info. Registration is open through October 15 or until capacity is reached.

WANTED: SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS

Do you own a business or a vacation home? Have season tickets to the Texans, Rockets, opera, or ballet? Consider donating gift cards, services, items, event tickets, a vacation weekend, or another experience to the Roberts "Out of this GALAxy" Auction to raise funds for a new computer lab and technology that benefits all students. Have an idea but also have questions? We can help you sort out the details. Please contact AuctionDonations@robertspto.org!
