Roberts Families:

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! We are so excited to begin the school year with lots of new and familiar faces. For the first time since entering the pandemic, our school is at capacity with more than 700 students on campus. I could not be more thrilled!

Roberts has always been known as a place that encourages students to find joy in learning and fosters inquisitive thinking. This year will be no different. The mission statement of our school reads:

Roberts Elementary strives to develop leaders in a global society who are inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people with a sense of community, respect and tolerance for diversity, and a love of learning.

As an IB School we strive to live out the mission statement every day in every way with our students.

The success of our school is not only hinged on great teaching and learning, but also on partnerships with parents and the community at large. We are looking forward to partnering with families and appreciate your support by being part of our REmarkable PTO! Every year the PTO makes leveraging resources and support to our students and staff a priority. Without this unwavering support, I am certain that our school would suffer.

I am incredibly honored to begin my 8th year as the leader of Roberts and I am looking forward to an awesome school year!

A MESSAGE FROM JEFF FREY

ROBERTS PTO PRESIDENT

Welcome to a new school year and a new year of PTO! I’m Jeff Frey and I will be serving as the PTO President this year. My wife, Stephanie, and I have two boys at Roberts: Wesley, 5th grade, and Colton, 3rd. My path from room parent when Wesley was in kinder has shown me the vibrant community we have and the willingness of many parents to contribute in so many ways. I look forward to continuing this tradition and serving both parents and our invaluable schoolteachers, administration, and staff.

If you’re a seasoned parent at Roberts…we’re back at it! If you’re new…a special welcome to you. As a parent of a child at Roberts Elementary, you are automatically a member of the PTO. We work collaboratively to support the school through many events and volunteer opportunities with the intent of giving our children the best education and social experiences possible. This couldn’t happen without your time, talents, treasures, and tenacity.

Whatever level you can participate in: donor, committee member, volunteer, or attendee of events…we welcome it!

Another good source of information is our PTO meetings…the first one is coming up on September 9th, in-person at the school right after drop-off. Principal Epps is at every meeting; gives an update, and is available for Q&A. This newsletter, of course, our Front Page goes out every week with updates.

MEET THE PTO FRIDAYS

Sept. 2, 16, & 23, After Drop-off

For the several upcoming Fridays of the school year, some of the PTO chairs and officers will be available after drop-off to chat and answer questions about Roberts and the PTO. Please bring your own coffee and see us at the Circle Drive entrance.

PLEASE BRING I.D. TO ENTER CAMPUS

The Roberts Campus is following new safety protocols and will require ALL PARENTS to show a VALID PHOTO ID in order to enter the campus AT EVERY VISIT. There will be no exceptions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

The International Festival is coming up on Friday, October 7! The theme this year is Books and Stories. There are many opportunities to participate:

Country Booth Leader/Helper
Talent Show for students (coordinator needed!)
Fashion Show for families and students
General Volunteers

Join us for an interest meeting on Tuesday, 9/6 at 7:45am in the cafeteria.IMP.: Please bring an ID for check in at the front desk. We can also answer questions after the PTO meeting on Friday 9/9.

ROBERTS AUCTION ON FEB. 25!

First Meeting on Wed., Sept. 7 at 7:15pm

Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 25th, 2023 for Roberts annual Auction at Rice University!

If you are interested in volunteering (sponsorships, donations, tickets, outreach, etc.), we will be having an Auction/Gala planning meeting for volunteers on Wednesday, September 7th at 7:15pm. Please reach out to Linda Haines or Michelle Wan, Auction Co-Chairs at auction@robertspto.org for details.

ROBERTS GARDEN CLEANUP & SOCIAL!

Sunday, September 11th, 9-11am

Help prepare the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade vegetable beds for September planting! Coffee and donuts will be served! Please RSVP HERE so we have a head count.

Learn more about the Roberts International Garden's planting and harvesting program and get your kids interested in where their food comes from and all the resources needed to grow it.

Bring your gardening gear: gloves, pruning clippers, etc. We have extras if you don’t have any. Please note that the building will be closed for the weekend so there will be no bathroom access. Water bottles are a good idea.

NOTE: Families with kids in classes Brigman, Luera, Peng, Vuong, and Laghari, WE NEED YOU! Garden is seeking 2 parents for each class to help your kids plant in the garden. Email us at internationalgarden@robertspto.org to sign up or for more information.

The Front Page is Roberts weekly newsletter, sent out on Tuesday afternoons. All parents who shared their email addresses with the school at Meet the Teacher and on First Day Forms are automatically signed up to receive the newsletter, unless they indicated otherwise.
