FROM THE PRINCIPAL: ECLIPSE GLIMPSES, STAAR, AND TARDIES

Glimpse of Solar Eclipse

Despite the cloudy weather, we were able to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse yesterday. We initially told classes that we were unable to see the eclipse due to cloud coverage and then there was a break in the clouds. I made an announcement over the intercom, and we all ran out (literally) to see! It was totally worth it.

STAAR Begins Next Week (3rd–5th Grades ONLY)

Our first STAAR test will take place on Wednesday, April 17 when students in 3rd– 5th grades will take the STAAR Reading Assessment. Please check your child’s Tuesday folder for important testing information from Mrs. Zatzkin going home today.

Don’t Be Tardy!

The number of students tardies is on the rise. While we understand that occasionally there are circumstances beyond your control that result in a student being tardy, chronic tardies negatively impact your child’s academic performance and social-emotional well-being. Please make a concerted effort to ensure that your child arrives to school on time each and every day. School begins at 7:30 a.m. and students are tardy at 7:35 a.m.

SIBLING REGISTRATION OPEN

Registration for siblings of current Roberts students is open for the 2024–25 school year. Siblings receive priority registration, so please do not share this link with families not already attending Roberts. Neighborhood registration begins April 11.

TEACHER OF THE WEEK

Ms. Amanda Villasenor (2nd Grade)

My name is Amanda Villasenor and this is my 8th year at Roberts Elementary; 3 years in 2nd, 2 years in 5th grade, and now back in 2nd! I am a native Houstonian. I went to school in Nacogdoches at Stephen F. Austin State University and earned my BA in Elementary Education. I am a first-generation college graduate. Education has been at the center of all my experiences, curiosities, and careers. I hope to be an example of hard work, dedication, and compassion for others.

When I'm not teaching I can be found doing jigsaw puzzles, watching reality television, or spending time with family and my sweet dog, Minnie!

We have faced lots of changes this year. Being part of this community has been a beacon of hope. Thank you for your support, thoughts, and prayers this year. Roberts is a very special place to be!

KRITI KITCHEN SPIRIT WEEK APRIL 9–13

Kriti Kitchen at 4010 Bissonnet St. has agreed to donate 20% of proceeds from identified dine-in and heat-and-eat purchases next week back to the Roberts Elementary PTO. You just need to mention "Roberts Spirit Week" at time of purchase.

Kriti Kitchen is owned by a Roberts family, Mary Cuclis and Scott Gilliland (proud Roberts graduate '98). Scott's mom was the librarian at Roberts for many years as it developed into the school we all know and love. Kriti has Greek prepared meals to take home and "heat and eat" as well as a cafe for dining in. Mary was previously the head chef at Pondicheri before venturing out on her own to start Kriti.

Please consider going by this week, April 9–13, if you are looking for an easy way to feed the family a healthy delicious Greek meal.
